Dental implants have been around for a really long time. They've just gotten popular a lot recently maybe in the last 10 years or so that people are actually choosing to go to them a lot more frequently than they did before but it's a really really good restorative option. I'm not sure that there's anything in dentistry that I can tell you that will last a lifetime but an implant should. If you're taking care of it and you're not smoking and you're making sure that it gets integrated into the bone really really well it should be a lifetime restoration for you. There are a couple of things that you can do with implants that help out other prosthesis or prosthetic things. You can get some implants and then you can get dentures on top of them which is really cool. You can get just a couple and then you can get some trailer hitch implants and then the denture snaps into those trailer hitches. You can take it in and out yourself but it gives it a little bit more stability so that you don't have to worry about your denture flopping out on your dinner plate at a restaurant and being embarrassed. You can go to the other extreme of dental implants where you have several on an upper arch or several on a lower arch. You actually get a prosthetic screwed into that and you can't take it out so you have your teeth in there all of the time 24 hours a day. I've got basically the key to unscrew it once a year and clean it for you and replace the screws. Then it gets put back in there and then you're ready to go for your next year.
Your Dental Implant Options
Dental implants are inserted into your jawbone to replace your natural tooth roots. They consist of three pieces:
- The dental implant
- An attachment that connects your dental implant to your restoration
- Your restoration
To ensure a stunning smile and improved oral function, we design and craft all restorations, including:
- Dental crowns
- Dental bridges
- Dental implant dentures
To have your dental implant placed, we will refer you to a skilled oral surgeon we work with. Following a brief healing period, you will return to our office for your custom tooth replacements!
The Many Advantages Of Dental Implant
Compared to other tooth replacement options, dental implants offer many benefits because dental implants:
- Prevent tissue loss in your jaw and face, helping you maintain your youthful look
- Can last a lifetime with proper care
- Feel, look, and function just like your natural teeth
- Won’t shift or fall out of your mouth
- Provide up to 90 percent of the biting power of your natural teeth
In order to have dental implants placed, you must have a strong, dense jawbone. We will carefully assess your situation before recommending dental implants. Most patients with good oral health are good candidates.
