Many people are uncomfortable or even downright anxious at the thought of going to the dentist. Perhaps you’re one of them.
There are many reasons why the prospect of a dental appointment can be uncomfortable. Maybe you’ve had a previous appointment with another dentist where you experienced pain. Perhaps you dislike the idea of sitting in a dental chair while people pass by the open doorway behind you. Or maybe you don’t like the possibility of being criticized for the state of your teeth.
At Tulip Tree Dental Care, we understand why people – by some estimates, over 150 million people in the U.S. – may feel anxious or even afraid at the idea of having a dental procedure. We’re working hard to eliminate those reasons for our patients.
Warm, Caring, Comforting Staff
We have a strict “no judgements” policy at our dental office. We don’t judge you for having dental problems. We help you solve them.
Every one of our staff is concerned with just one thing: providing you the most relaxed, comfortable, and pain-free dental appointments so that you can get the care you need. We provide a number of amenities for your comfort: warm blankets on request, because we know that people sometimes get chilly; television to watch or radio to listen to during your procedure.
We’re also careful to explain as much or as little of your dental procedure as you want to know. We’ll proceed at your pace. If at any time you need a moment before we continue, just let us know.
Our five operatories (treatment rooms) are private, comfortable, and quiet. In fact, you can take a virtual tour of our office before your appointment.
Three Levels of Dental Sedation
We firmly believe that dentistry should be pain-free and comfortable. In addition to ensuring that your mouth is completely numb and remains numb during your entire procedure, we offer two levels of dental sedation to help you relax. We can help you choose the level of sedation that’s right for you.
This is a very popular dental sedation option. Nitrous oxide, also know as laughing gas, is inhaled through a mask. It creates a sense of relaxation and comfort, and you may even feel giddy! You’ll remain conscious throughout the procedure. If at any point you’d like a little more sedation, just ask. The effects wear off rapidly once the gas is stopped, so you’ll be able to drive yourself home afterward.
Nitrous oxide has been used for decades and is a very safe dental sedation option. Both of our sedation options are safe when administered and supervised by our highly trained staff.
Conscious Oral Sedation
This level of sedation is appropriate for people with moderate to severe dental anxiety. We’ll administer an oral medication (a pill or tablet) that you swallow in our office up to one hour before your appointment. Once the medication has taken effect, you’ll feel very relaxed and comfortable, perhaps even groggy. In fact, some people with dental anxiety get so relaxed that they fall asleep during their procedures.
The effects of oral sedation linger after your appointment is done. You’ll definitely need someone to drive to your appointment and home afterward.
